Another day, another demo! Back to back demos at the weekend, Saturday was Joey Richardson and Sunday was our old friend Andrew Hall who was demonstrating over at Border Woodturners.
As usual the presentation was very clear, every aspect was fully explained in careful detail with a strong emphasis on safety and good working practices - a couple of aspects that are all too often overlooked when we are working alone in our home workshops and studios.
The full house were entertained by Andrew who began with a "warm up" exercise making one of his trade mark dickie bow ties, passing around a rather lovely example in Thuja burr.
The next project was a small turned hat, we were taken through all of the steps to produce a small (quarter size) hat, with lights being used to hollow out the shape and to remove the chucking point from the top. The completed hat and bending jig were then donated by Andrew to the club raffle, producing a spike in raffle ticket purchase at lunch time!
The final project was an Owl, complete with mortar board style hat and separate stand, the owl is partly turned using the Paul Howard sphere jig (which is used to create the head), this was not demonstrated as members had already seen this last month as part of the demo by Simon Hope.
All in all a good way to end a fairly busy weekend!
