Well its often said "shy bairns get nowt" where we come from so we did the cheeky thing and asked Phil Irons to come for the day !
On hearing that Phil was "up here" we booked him for a masterclass in the workshop, well the worst thing he could have done was say no!
The kicked off at around 9 am with introductions between Phil and the three of us and then it was down to work on some Sycamore blanks which had not been worked on before he arrived.
Phil took us through the turning from proper formation of chucking points to using the gouge to get the best shapes and the very best possible finish we could manage. Following on from that it was more surface preparation including colouring and then application of the final finish coats with finish in tins and from a spray gun system.
All in all a great day was had by all, I can even forgive the comments about the RU being noisy and clunky to use....well almost!
